Pope Francis Admits Priests Used Nuns as Sexual Slaves

For years, the Catholic Church has had to deal with a scandal involving alleged sexual abuse of children by priests. Now it is faced with yet another one.

The Latest Black Eye

On Feb. 6, 2019, Pope Francis announced that priests and bishops around the world have used nuns around the world as “sexual slaves.” According to an article that appeared on MSN.com, reports of abuse have been more prevalent in Latin America, Africa and Asia. But abuse has also been reported in Peru, Italy, India and several other countries.

This is not only the first time that the Pope has admitted this type of sexual abuse was occurring, but is also the first time the church as a whole has recognized what is happening. The editor of “Women Church World,” a Vatican magazine aimed at women, told MSN.com that many victims have been forced to have abortions. Others have raised children not recognized by their clergy member fathers.

In addition, the Church, according to the report, has ignored many victims’ complaints. Still others have not come forward, afraid that they would face retaliation.

It is not known how many nuns have been victimized in the United States. However, the horrible allegations of child sexual abuse committed by clergy members have been well documented across our country.
