In far too many instances, people hired by institutions we trust have used their positions of authority to sexually abuse minors – in New Mexico and throughout the rest of the country. When this happens, victims can sue the institution that negligently employed that person.

At Sexual Abuse Claim, we represent people who have been victimized by this type of crime and worked to help them obtain compensation for the suffering they’ve been forced to endure.

Childhood Sexual Abuse in New Mexico

The effects of child sexual abuse can last a lifetime. Tragically, the abuser is often someone the victim trusts and hold in the highest regard, commit this most horrible of crimes.

Priests accused of sexual abuse have been in the news in many states – New Mexico included. In fact, so many have been accused that the Archdiocese of New Mexico announced in November 2018 that it was going bankrupt. The reason was due to the number of settlements it had reached with victims of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of clergy members.

This announcement came on the heels of the New Mexico Attorney General’s office announcing it had demanded that Roman Catholic dioceses across the state turn over the records of priests accused of sexual abuse.

Other Institutions Associated With Sexual Abuse of Kids

The Catholic Church is far from the only respected institution that has been linked to childhood sexual abuse. For example, a former schoolteacher in Santa Fe and Espanola was convicted on 12 counts of child sexual abuse in December 2018. The teacher abused two students during the 2007-08 school year. Sentencing in the case was expected to occur in February 2019.
